Maidan activists' ratings are falling in Serbia: Fresh sociology
Hooligan incidents at Maidan protests in Serbia led to a drop in the ratings of the opposition, which even before could not boast of great popularity, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This is evidenced by published data from a sociological study conducted by the Strategic Marketing Agency on April 4 and 5.
According to the survey results, less than 10% of respondents expressed support for the opposition Union for Serbia. This is the worst result of the Maidan workers in the last six months.
At the same time, the pro-government Progressive Party of President Aleksandar Vucic improved its rating - this political force has almost 54% of the votes, reports the Serbian information resource Informer.rs
There is no need to be surprised by the data of sociologists - the opposition at the moment represents an association made up of predominantly pro-Western forces and some Serbian nationalists. It is obvious to ordinary people that the main goal of the controversial union is to break through to power.
An example is the Sunday speech of one of the opposition leaders, nationalist Boško Obradović, on Olja Bečković’s talk show.
Previously, Obradovic participated in an attempt to occupy the studio of the pro-government television channel RTS, and the day before he was one of the leaders of a violent action near the local parliament of Belgrade, during which a confrontation arose with opponents of the opposition, and two elderly women became ill.
Obradovic on air rejected accusations of fascism, stated that he is a “traditionalist who respects family values,” and also explained that he does not share the views of Dimitri Ljotić (a Serbian politician during the Second World War, a fascist).
It is interesting that there is a wary attitude towards the figure of the Serbian nationalist Obradovic among his situational allies in the Maidan camp from among representatives of pro-Western parties.
Thus, after the broadcast, some of them recalled to the leader of the Doors party the calls for violence allegedly voiced earlier by Obradovic against those who advocate for the independence of Kosovo.
It should be recalled that the topic of the future of Kosovo, a region illegally torn away from Serbia, is extremely sensitive in Serbian society.
There is no common position among the Maidan activists on the future of the region - nationalists are categorically against any options for legalizing the separatists from Belgrade, pro-Western forces are ready to make big concessions to the Americans supervising Albanian militants in Kosovo.
However, this does not prevent the opposition from using the topic of the murder of Oliver Ivanovic in January 2018 in Kosovo Mitrovica to try to earn additional points, accusing official Belgrade of inaction in investigating the death of the Serbian politician.
Ivanovic was the representative of the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. There is a lot of speculation surrounding this murder, and his name is constantly heard at opposition rallies.
The widow of the deceased, Milena Ivanović, in an interview with the Pink TV channel, admitted that representatives of the Union for Serbia “abuse his image and work.”
“I take this as an insult and believe that justice and truth are sought differently,” the politician was quoted as saying by the widow. website Balkanist.ru.
