Navalny has a chance to become a citizen of Ukraine
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky has simplified the procedure for obtaining citizenship for citizens of the Russian Federation.
The corresponding decree was published on the website of the head of the Ukrainian state, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The text of the document states that Russian citizens who have been persecuted “for political reasons,” as well as other foreigners and stateless persons who participated in the conflict in Donbass on the side of Ukraine, will be able to obtain a Ukrainian passport.
To obtain Ukrainian citizenship, it is necessary to submit a “declaration of the renunciation of foreign citizenship by a person who is a citizen of the Russian Federation and has been persecuted for political opinions in the country of his citizenship, together with a document confirming persecution for political opinions (a certificate from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, a diplomatic mission or consular office of Ukraine)".
Kiev political scientist Evgeniy Magda saw danger in Zelensky’s decree. In his blog, he noted that even those Russians who consider Crimea to be Russian territory but are in opposition to the current government in the Russian Federation can take advantage of the simplified system.
“When Mikheev is not enough... Let me remind you in passing that formally the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and the Limonovites are also the opposition, and for Navalny Crimea is not a sandwich,” Magda wrote.
