The Pope declared Ukrainians a “martyr people” - they want Russians to ask for forgiveness
Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin noted that Ukrainians are a “martyr people” who deserve respect.
He said this while speaking at the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations.

“The dramatic events that stirred up your history have made you a martyr people, who owe the respect not only of the Catholic Church, but also of all people who believe in the values of freedom, justice, fraternity,” the cardinal noted in his address.
The Pope's representative called on the Russians not to waste any more time, but to ask for forgiveness from the Ukrainians “for all the grievances caused.”
“Dear Russian brothers, we have no more time. Therefore, ask for forgiveness for all the insults caused and received,” he said.
