They want to jail Poroshenko for 5 years for libel
A group of people's deputies from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction proposes to introduce criminal liability for libel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The corresponding bill (No. 9306) on amendments to the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine was registered by people's deputies from the BPP Nikolai Palamarchuk, Artur Palatny and Oleg Velikin on November 20, according to information on the Verkhovna Rada website.
The authors of the initiative propose to add Article 151 (2) “Slander” to the Criminal Code.
According to this article, for libel - the deliberate dissemination of deliberately untrue information that discredits the honor and dignity of another person or undermines his business reputation - will be punishable by a fine of 200 to 500 non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens or correctional labor for up to 1 year, or restriction of freedom for up to 2 years. .
For defamation committed through public display in the media or on the Internet, there will be a penalty in the form of a fine from 500 to 1500 non-taxable minimums or correctional labor from 1 to 2 years, or restriction of freedom from 2 to 5 years.
Defamation combined with accusations of committing a grave or especially grave crime will entail liability by restriction of freedom from 2 to 5 years, or imprisonment for up to 3 years, with possible deprivation of the right to engage in certain activities for up to 3 years.
