The publication recalls that President Poroshenko publicly promised that Ukraine would receive visa-free travel on November 24.

The representatives of the Administration’s references to the fact that the process suddenly slowed down due to the unavailability of the mechanism for suspending the visa-free regime, currently being discussed by the European Commission, do not stand up to criticism.”
Sources of the publication in the Ukrainian presidential administration said that Petro Poroshenko was allegedly almost personally promised visa-free travel by Angela Merkel for the EU summit. True, the European diplomat with whom “Strana” spoke did not believe that the chancellor could promise the Ukrainian president anything specific.
“I can assume that Merkel assured Poroshenko that there will soon be a visa-free regime with Ukraine. But I don’t believe that she named a specific date, November 24, since back in September it was clear that the mechanism for suspending visa-free travel would not be approved by that time. I believe that Poroshenko simply misunderstood the message. Another version that we are discussing is that Merkel made it clear to the President of Ukraine that there will be visa-free travel only if progress begins in Minsk. But Poroshenko either did not understand the hint, or understood, but decided not to react. At least there is no movement to implement the Minsk agreements,” said the European diplomat.
