Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will either be removed from power in the near future, or will hold out until the presidential elections in 2019, which he may win. Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko stated this on Vesti FM radio.

“Poroshenko has actually started a creeping coup. He has a deadline, he needs to wait until the summer; a political pause always begins in Ukraine in the summer. And in the spring of 2019 there will be presidential elections, and everyone will begin to prepare for them. He will gain a tactical advantage. He will have a chance to survive and strangle his enemies. Many of those who are now doing well in politics, like Tymoshenko, will not survive,” Ishchenko said.
He believes that Poroshenko’s political opponents have a chance to overthrow him only by uniting.
“They need to unite. They do not have such a large reserve of time to remove Poroshenko through sharp radicalization. Now it will not work to present Saakashvili as a screen, hoping that he will put pressure on Poroshenko. Poroshenko doesn’t want to leave just like that and won’t leave. It is necessary to demonstrate that the whole society, or the entire elite, is against him,” Ishchenko said.
