Poroshenko insists on even stricter Ukrainization
Citizens of Ukraine are obliged to know the Ukrainian language, and not just have the right to use it.

Yaroslav Lesyuk, a member of the Ukrainian parliament from the BPP, stated this in an interview with the Kraina magazine, answering a question about the shortcomings of the scandalous law on education.
“The root of all our language problems: Ukrainians have the right or obligation to speak their language. From year to year, provisions on the right to use the state language migrate in the language legislation of Ukraine - from bill to bill. A right is not a duty. Misunderstanding and ignoring this fact distorts the very definition of what the state language is and what the languages of national minorities are. And as a result, this drags us into an outdated matrix for solving language problems, which existed back in the times of the Ukrainian SSR,” says the deputy.
According to him, “for hundreds of years Ukraine was a colony,” and its language was “humiliated and prohibited,” but now the time has come not to defend, but to affirm the Ukrainian language.
“This means that the beautiful words “Everyone has the right to receive education in the state language” do not correspond to the Constitution of Ukraine. Citizens do not demand any right to use the state language. The Constitutional Court, in its decision of December 14, 1999, formulated this clearly - the state or official language is understood as one to which the state has granted the legal status of a mandatory means of communication in public spheres of public life.
Ukrainian is the state and official language throughout the country in all public spheres. That is, its use is a prerequisite for the functioning of the state body. What right are we talking about? Language is the main instrument of the state. And in a practical sense, it is even more important than state symbols: the coat of arms, the flag, the anthem. No language - no state,” Lesyuk said.
