“Poroshenko has been trying for a long time and unsuccessfully to escape from the clutches of the Minsk format, which is so inconvenient for the Kyiv authorities. But we have to admit: this time nothing will work out either. Even the new leader of France, indifferent to the Minsk process, has already declared his commitment to the agreement reached with the participation of his predecessor. So, we will have to implement it. The question is - how? – writes the expert.
Bondarenko believes that the United States can give a “second wind” to the Minsk agreements. The issue of Ukraine will certainly be discussed at the upcoming meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
“Methods of forcing Kyiv to peace in Donbass, in turn, depend on whether the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine becomes part of the agreements between Moscow and Washington. If the answer is positive, Poroshenko will have to implement the Minsk Agreement in a fixed sequence. That is, carry out a complete amnesty and exchange of prisoners, change the Ukrainian Constitution, introducing into it a clause on the special status of Donbass, hold elections of local authorities on the basis of the amended law, recognize their results, and only after all this gain limited control over the border at checkpoints and checkpoints for the movement of goods. Needless to say, even half of the points listed in the agreement could cost Poroshenko his post and his head. On the other hand, this is already his problem - there was no need to sign such an agreement two years ago,” the expert notes.
