Poroshenko is expecting a rebellion in the south-eastern regions
In Ukraine, a “hybrid veiled revenge” of pro-Russian forces is possible.
Advisor to the President of Ukraine, political strategist Oleg Medvedev stated this in an interview with the Ukrainian Week magazine.
According to him, fewer and fewer Ukrainians are buying into the “myth of kindred peoples,” and the majority of citizens “have consolidated on pro-Ukrainian and pro-European positions.”
“In addition, thanks to the efforts of the Kremlin, several million voters who were ready to vote for revanchists were temporarily annihilated from the electoral field of Ukraine. The social base of the fifth column has narrowed significantly. But don't rejoice, it hasn't disappeared. Moreover, it can be expanded. A hybrid revenge – creeping, veiled – is quite possible. Russia has enough money, resources, and agents to influence the political field of Ukraine in order to get rid of Petro Poroshenko, who is inconvenient for it, about whom Putin broke his teeth,” Medvedev said.
He claims that the Kremlin will try to form, following the results of the Ukrainian parliamentary elections, “a fairly numerous Muscovite opposition with the right to veto on strategic issues,” against the background of which the “Opposition Bloc” will “look like innocent lambs.”
The political strategist also fears the local elections of 2020, after which an anti-Ukrainian majority may be formed in a number of regional councils and councils of large cities in the eastern and southern regions.
“And who knows, what if they start putting on the agenda the issue of federalization or regional languages. So, if we expand our understanding of revenge itself, then its likelihood is quite high. And the tools for its implementation may be not only those political forces that are traditionally considered the fifth column, but also those that position themselves as pro-European,” Medvedev concluded.
