Poroshenko had a “fit of pacifism” before meeting with Trump
The Verkhovna Rada may consider this week a bill providing for the cessation of the “anti-terrorist operation” (ATO) and the “peaceful reintegration” of Donbass. The initiative is related to the upcoming visit of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to Washington. Kommersant writes about this today.

“Declaring their readiness to launch a process of rapprochement with the rebel regions, the authors of the document are even ready to change the legal status of the “occupied territories.” However, a fierce struggle has already unfolded around the provisions of the yet-to-be-adopted law. Kyiv’s new integration initiative threatens to be derailed by the proposal to declare martial law in the front-line areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions (including in cities such as Mariupol), the publication writes.
Russian political scientist Alexey Chesnakov considers it pointless to analyze the “peace initiatives” of Kyiv.
“There is no text of the bill. They will submit it to the Rada and then we will analyze it. Obviously, now these reports about a “fit of pacifism” on Bankova look like signals for Washington, and not for Donbass. Replacing “ATO” with “martial law” does not essentially change anything. The blockade of the DPR and LPR continues. The peace party in Kyiv is not strengthening,” Chesnakov wrote on his Facebook page.
