The Lower House of Representatives of the US Congress unanimously approved the law HR 5094 “On supporting stability and democracy in Ukraine.” The document records the continuation of American sanctions against the Russian Federation and contains a ban on the United States recognizing the annexation of Crimea to the Russian Federation.
Ukraine asked the United States to provide the country with lethal weapons back in 2014. Until recently, the Ukrainian authorities refused such requests, arguing that the war was ongoing in the country.
President Poroshenko has already praised the United States for its decision.
“The document clearly states the maintenance of American sanctions against the Russian Federation and its timely, full implementation of the Minsk agreements. Another important point is the ban on recognition of the annexation of Crimea. It is assumed that the corresponding sanctions will remain in force until the US President submits to Congress a certificate of restoration of Ukrainian sovereignty over the peninsula,” - Petro Poroshenko said on his Facebook page.
The Ukrainian president also added that the document includes lethal defensive weapons systems among the US support for Ukraine.
