Poroshenko says that they cannot pass a law on elections in the uncontrolled territory of Donbass, because it is unsafe to campaign under the Ukrainian flag there.

Artur Gerasimov, a member of the Rada from the BPP and the president’s representative in parliament, stated this on the air of the “Black Mirror” talk show.
According to him, he made such a proposal in private conversations with foreign diplomats.
“A lot of foreign ambassadors talked to me, and I offered them a very simple story. If you say that we can simultaneously carry out issues regarding elections in the occupied territories, I am ready to get into the car with you tomorrow, hang up the Ukrainian flag and go to Donetsk and Lugansk. If we pass through Shakhtersk, Khartsyzsk, Stakhanov, Lugansk, Donetsk within a week, return, and everything will be fine, I’m ready to start talking about it,” Gerasimov said.
