Poroshenko said that Banderization is dangerous for Ukraine
The mayor of Kiev, Vitaliy Klitschko, could not help but sign the scandalous decision of the City Council to rename Moskovsky Avenue into an avenue bearing the name of Stepan Bandera, who collaborated with the Nazis, since this decision was part of the political agreements of the mayor’s team with deputies of the nationalist party “Svoboda,” Kommersant reports, citing words by Verkhovna Rada deputy from the BPP Alexandra Chernenko.

“In exchange for concessions to the Svoboda members on an “ideological issue” that was important to them, Vitali Klitschko’s team received their votes when adopting several other important resolutions “related to the economic and financial sphere,” the publication reports the deputy’s story.
At the same time, the publication notes. that those around President Poroshenko are well aware of the risks and negative consequences that the glorification of such an odious historical character brings to Ukraine.
“Excessive zeal in renaming streets and squares in honor of UPA leaders harms our relations with Europeans, primarily with the Poles,” a source in Poroshenko’s administration told the newspaper. — The decision of the City Council on Bandera Avenue was made extremely untimely - four days before July 11, when Poland celebrates the day of remembrance of the victims of the Volyn tragedy. Naturally, this became an additional irritant.”
At the same time, Kommersant’s interlocutor admitted that the president’s team today will not dare to publicly object to the glorification and perpetuation of the memory of the leaders of the OUN and UPA, since such a position “could cause indignation among the “patriotic public”, which considers Bandera and Shukhevych national heroes.”
