Poroshenko called on France and Germany to put more pressure on Putin for the sake of Ukrainian prisoners
People's Deputy from European Solidarity Petro Poroshenko Irina accused representatives of the Russian Federation and uncontrolled areas of Donbass of disrupting negotiations in Minsk and disrupting the agreements reached in Paris during the meeting of the Normandy Four, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On Wednesday, the last meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group this year took place in Minsk, at which the Russian Federation and the militants controlled by it completely disrupted, neutralized and crossed out all the achievements of the summit in the Normandy Format.
We all remember that in Paris we agreed on two key things - the release of our hostages before the New Year and an indefinite ceasefire. And it was in Minsk that the ceasefire date should have been determined,” Gerashchenko noted, speaking from the parliamentary rostrum.
Irina Gerashchenko also called on France and Germany to put pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and force him to hand over Ukrainian prisoners.
“In fact, we see that all these results have been crossed out. We want not only to condemn the actions of the Russian Federation, which bears full responsibility for the failure of these agreements, but, first of all, to appeal to Ukraine’s partners in the Normandy format – France and Germany.
Dear colleagues from France and Germany, you are not only partners and moderators of this meeting, but also guarantors of the implementation of agreements. Today, when Europe is entering the New Year holidays, it is abnormal that Ukrainian hostages and political prisoners, and there are hundreds of them in Donetsk and Lugansk, do not have a chance to celebrate the New Year holidays at home.
We appeal to France and Germany to put pressure on the Russian Federation so that Putin uses all his influence on the militants, and so that men and women, civilian and military, are at home before the New Year,” the deputy demanded, also calling for a video conference to be held in Minsk.
Interestingly, Poroshenko’s party previously harshly criticized President Vladimir Zelensky for “surrendering the interests of Ukraine” at the negotiations in Paris.
