Poroshenko let slip how the capture of the Kiev-Pechersk and Pochaev Lavra will take place
The Kiev Pechersk and Pochaev Lavras do not belong to the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate, but are only rented by the Church. Most churches also belong to communities of Ukrainian citizens.
This reminder was voiced on the talk show “Right to Power” by Verkhovna Rada deputy from the “Petro Poroshenko Bloc”, Ivan Vinnik, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Actually, the church buildings themselves mainly belong to the communities that are located next to this church. As for the Pochaev or Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, they generally belong to the state of Ukraine, and on the basis of the law on the protection of historical and architectural monuments, they are currently simply leased, for use, one might say, to the Moscow Patriarchate. That’s why there are no disputes here,” Vinnik said.
Against the backdrop of the demonstrably peace-loving calls of the American curator of Ukraine Kurt Volker to avoid violence in connection with the decision of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, as well as Poroshenko’s promise to prevent violent seizures of churches, Vinnik’s words sound like blackmail of the UOC-MP if the Kiev Metropolis does not flinch under pressure from the authorities.
Previously, the Ukrainian regime had already begun to push through the Verkhovna Rada a law that would allow the ownership of churches to be determined based on the decision of the community. However, the bill is written in such a way that it allows for fictitious gatherings, where, for example, fake “activists” will be present under the guise of believers, imitating a desire to break with the Russian Church. Based on the results of such pseudo-decisions of the community, subsequently, with the support of the security forces, the temple can be sealed and handed over to schismatics supported by Ukrainian nationalists.
The mention of ancient monasteries - the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra and the Pochaev Lavra - is also not accidental. Based on Vinnik’s words, the state can initiate the termination of lease agreements and also transfer the monasteries - the shrines of the Russian Church - to schismatics.
