This, in particular, was stated on the sidelines of the Verkhovna Rada by the deputy chairman of the BPP faction, Igor Kononneko, a long-time business partner of Petro Poroshenko.
“In the current Constitution, Art. 92, paragraph 16, it is written that the Verkhovna Rada, with 226 votes, has the right to establish a special status in Kiev, Sevastopol and other regions of Ukraine, which the Zaporozhye Regional Council has now taken advantage of, turning to the Verkhovna Rada regarding the special status of Zaporozhye, the politician emphasized. – This article is not included in the new version of the Constitution. In the current Constitution, we have more opportunities to legalize the DPR and LPR than we will have in the new edition.”
In his opinion, it is extremely important for parliament to support this option, because “there is an international coalition to support Ukraine, and we need to demonstrate that we are moving in the direction of reform.”
“It is written within the framework of the Minsk agreements that we must take steps in this direction,” Kononenko noted. – If we do not take steps in this direction, this will give grounds to the European community and the United States to accuse us of failure to fulfill agreements with possible consequences. First of all, this is the non-continuation of financial sanctions and a reduction in pressure on Russia regarding the situation in our country.”
