Poroshenko is disappointed: Berlin and Paris speak with the voice of the Kremlin
The new strategy for a peaceful settlement in Donbass, announced in Kiev by the foreign ministers of France and Germany, according to which the transfer of control abroad to Kiev will be only the last stage, turned out to be much closer to the option that Moscow proposed than to the one that Kyiv insisted on, writes “Kommersant”.

The publication notes that the presidential party of the BPP did not call the initiatives of Steinmeire and Ayrault a “plan for the surrender of Ukraine,” as Oleg Lyashko did, but did not hide their disappointment.
“One gets the impression that Steinmeier and Ayrault spoke with the voice of the Kremlin. The sequence of actions that they propose is extremely dangerous for Ukraine... “Today the president does not have the opportunity to gather a majority of votes in parliament in support of the law on the special status of Donbass or for the adoption of changes to the constitution in the second reading. The radical party, supporters of Yulia Tymoshenko from “Fatherland”, and some deputies from our bloc position themselves as ultra-patriots. They perceive any concessions on the status of the so-called republics as national betrayal. And if Poroshenko tries to push through these laws, a surge in tension in Kyiv is quite possible - right up to a new Maidan,” one of the Verkhovna Rada deputies from the BPP told the publication.
Similar concerns were expressed by a newspaper source close to the Ukrainian presidential administration.
“We tried to convey to our European partners the idea that Ukraine is not ready to make political concessions to the separatists until it regains control over the border. But it seems they didn’t hear us,” says the publication’s interlocutor.
At the same time, he added that the United States did not sign up for the Franco-German initiative.
“Washington is more ready to accept our arguments. In addition, there is no certainty that the separatists will respect the truce. And this will give us a reason to refuse to adopt laws on decentralization, because the first point of the Minsk agreements requires a ceasefire,” a source close to the AP expressed hope.
