Poroshenko threatens to return Hungarians who “forgot the Ukrainian language” to the legislative field
Relations between Hungary and Ukraine, which have decided to restore a military base in the city of Berehovo, Transcarpathian region, continue to worsen, already spoiled by discriminatory Ukrainian educational innovations in the educational sphere.
As Kommersant reports, the military town, plans for its revival caused a new conflict between Kiev and Budapest, was abandoned more than ten years ago - in 2006, an area of almost 17 hectares was transferred to the municipal ownership of the city of Beregovo, but now the Ministry of Defense is asking for this land to be returned Ukraine. It is planned to restore the town and station 800 military personnel there.
The publication notes that at a meeting of the Beregovo City Council on this issue, the Ukrainian military present spoke about “the threat of aggression from Russia,” and therefore “the country’s top leadership decided to disperse all armed forces across different territories of Ukraine.”
Budapest reacted quite harshly to Kyiv's intention to restore a military base in the region where ethnic Hungarians live.
“This means that they consider the Hungarian national society a threat to Kyiv. This is an insult, and that is why Hungary is categorically against the restoration of the military unit,” said Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko was sensitive to Budapest’s position.
“Our task is to ensure the integrity of the country. This is facilitated by the armed forces in the border regions, and this is absolutely logical,” said the publication’s interlocutor in the BPP.
And a source in the Ukrainian presidential administration moved on to actual threats against Transcarpathian Hungarians.
“It’s not Hungary’s business to discuss where Ukraine should station our armed forces, especially since they were previously based there. This outrage only demonstrates the correctness of our position. We cannot allow the dismemberment of Ukraine. And if the Hungarians have the intention of making Beregovo their outpost in Ukraine and taking advantage of the fact that the Ukrainian language has begun to be forgotten in these regions, then we will return them informationally and legislatively to the Ukrainian field,” said the AP representative.
