Poroshenko is being “rubbed” by the EU: Don’t pay attention to the losses, be patient, everything will work out
EU countries should not worry about temporary economic losses from mutual sanctions with Russia - as soon as Crimea and Donbass return to Ukrainian control under Western pressure, Europe will once again be able to return to the huge Russian market, where no one is able to displace European goods. At the same time, new markets will remain that have emerged due to diversification due to Russian counter-sanctions.
Sergei Leshchenko, deputy head of the Main Department for Foreign Policy and European Integration of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine, stated this during a round table in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"There is a question of dilemma between values (European - ed.) and economic benefits. Of course, the Russian government is trying to play on this as much as possible, and for this purpose counter-sanctions were introduced, which may have turned out to be a surprise for the EU countries, which did not expect such significant, in their opinion, countermeasures from the Russian Federation, which, of course, hit certain regions, production facilities, companies. Indeed, at first it was a real shock for the member countries and their economies, but... diversification saved the situation, and at a more or less level we managed to achieve export growth,” said a representative of the Poroshenko administration.
“Perhaps it is sometimes forgotten, but the Russian market will return once it opens up after the restoration of territorial integrity and the lifting of sanctions. German, French, Italian goods will remain desirable for the Russian market.
That is, European companies not only acquired new markets thanks to diversification, but also potentially retained Russian ones. The same products of the agro-industrial complex, shoes, cars - they still remain the best in the world in quality, they will still be bought. So I would not say about the loss of markets,” added Sergei Leshchenko.
