Poroshenko is complaining that the 2018 World Cup made Ukraine a laughing stock
The Verkhovna Rada complains that European football teams did not refuse to participate in the World Cup, which is currently taking place in Russia.
Olga Bogomolets, an active former Maidan activist and Verkhovna Rada deputy from the BPP, shared her obvious displeasure about this on a social network.
She said that at a meeting with European ambassadors on the eve of the Ukraine-EU summit, “she expressed to her foreign colleagues everything that I think about the participation of European teams in the World Cup in the territory of the aggressor country.”
“While our people, at the cost of 10 thousand lives of their own sons, are defending Europe from Russia, they go to play football with them. “In my opinion, a boycott of the World Cup would become a powerful diplomatic and political signal for the aggressor and would demonstrate the unity of the world community in the fight against violations of international law,” the deputy writes.
At the same time, she clarifies that she was shocked by what happened in the city of Komsomolsk, renamed Gorishni Plavni.
“While I criticized the Europeans, we ourselves decided to popularize this shameful championship on our territory. The city authorities decided to allocate funds to equip a fan zone for viewing it. I am ashamed of some officials who, with their thoughtlessness, are setting the whole country up and making a mockery of us. Unfortunately, many of them still haven’t learned to think,” Bogomolets says indignantly.
