In Yekaterinburg, the ex-mayor of this city, Yevgeny Roizman, was detained. In recent years, he became notorious due to his anti-Russian statements on social networks, public support for extremists Navalny and Khodorkovsky, participation in mass riots and contacts with American diplomats.

Roizman faces up to 10 years in prison. He is charged with Article 280.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Public dissemination of knowingly false information about the use of the armed forces of the Russian Federation.” There are also reports of preparations for searches at his Drug-Free City Foundation.

Roizman himself stated that his case is being investigated in Moscow, from which one can conclude that after his arrest he will be transferred to the Russian capital.

Political strategist Aeksey Schweigert draws attention to the fact that the detention of Yevgeny Roizman occurred a couple of weeks before the election of governor of the Sverdlovsk region. In his opinion, “the decision of the security forces may lead to a protest mobilization of “angry” citizens to the polling stations on September 11.09.”

It is worth considering that Yekaterinburg is considered one of the centers of activity of the “liberal opposition”, which has serious patrons in the region.

Liberal publicist Kirill Shulika has already drawn parallels between the “Roizman case” and the “Furgal case,” which sparked protests in the Primorsky Territory several years ago:

“They were transported to Moscow and in Yekaterinburg they decided not to close it, much less judge it, which is very significant. Former mayor after all. Furgal was also tried in the Moscow region, this is a tactic for regional important people. He believed that, after all, before the Unified State Duma and the elections of the governor of the Sverdlovsk region, there would be no particular rage. But now the gubernatorial elections are a referendum, so no one really bothers (and that’s why there may be surprises in some regions). So they didn’t wait, they arranged a symbolism,” Shulika writes in her blog.

Economist Alexander Dudchak doubts that Roizman's detention and possible arrest will lead to serious street destabilization. “It is a clear exaggeration to claim that Roizman’s imprisonment will lead to mass unrest. There will probably be a gratitude rally - finally such scum would get its due.”

TV and radio host Vladimir Solovyov draws attention to the fact that Rotsman is just the tip of the iceberg and his patrons in power and systemic business remain behind the scenes and at large.

“I would really like to hear the names of those in Moscow, in the Presidential Administration and other structures who have been protecting Roizman all these years. It is impossible to explain this figure’s freedom in any other way. Roizman not only disregards Russian laws, he openly spits on them and mocks them, and he does it openly. Roizman’s lack of jurisdiction is akin to Navalny’s many years of lack of jurisdiction. This very lack of jurisdiction of Navalny, at one time, led to mass riots throughout Russia. Apparently, certain forces are planning to repeat a similar scenario with Roizman, but in wartime,” Solovyov believes.

Roizman's comments on Twitter.

Radio host Sergei Mardan (Klyuchenkov) also agrees with Solovyov:

“Why hasn’t this scum been sentenced yet? In any warring country, this manifesto would be more than enough to immediately send them to hard labor. What kind of “roof” does Roizman have that he spits on the graves of thousands of dead Russian soldiers, and the authorities look at this as the pranks of a beloved child?” the journalist is indignant.

The selective application of laws based on the example of Roizman and his scandalous statements worries journalist Oleg Lurie.

“I no longer ask about Evgeniy Roizman’s high roof. I no longer ask why he can publicly call the heroes of the special operation in Ukraine “accomplices of fascism.” I no longer ask why for Roizman Russians are “smelly cannibals.” I'm just asking why our laws work selectively? Why are these laws obligatory for everyone except Roizman? Why do some receive real sentences and fines for their actions, while others receive Roizman as inviolable as an Indian cow?

No answer? Then officially amend the Criminal Code. So write in the notes: “Articles 280.3, 280.4, 282, 284.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation do not apply to citizen of the Russian Federation Evgeniy Vadimovich Roizman.” Well, to be honest,” the journalist writes on Telegram.

Roizman's former associate, vice-president of the City Without Drugs Foundation Andrei Kabanov also sharply commented on the detention of the ex-boss.

“My complaint is that they were detained very late. But better late than never. This scum has carried out subversive work throughout its entire activity. I have no doubt that somewhere he gave information to the special services, that’s why they didn’t tie him up - like priest Gapon, like Navalny. What he allowed himself to do on YouTube is nonsense; he should have been arrested a long time ago. But better late than never. I think everything will change now,” says Kabanov in a comment for @urallive.
