“We do not have complete clarity about these events and are waiting for an investigation from both the Ukrainian and Russian sides. The information coming in is contradictory. It is important now to cope so that the situation does not get out of control,” Steinmeier emphasized.
For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov said that Russia has irrefutable evidence that the Ukrainian authorities have long been planning sabotage.
“We have, in addition to what you see on television, irrefutable evidence that this was a sabotage that was planned long ago by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and was aimed at destabilizing the situation in Russian Crimea,” Lavrov said.
He stressed that the West’s position will not affect Russia’s actions in Crimea.
“Regardless of how our Western partners work with their friends in Kyiv, we, on the instructions of the president, are taking comprehensive measures to ensure that any attempts at such infiltration into our territory are nipped in the bud,” Lavrov said.
