Russia and Belarus are having exercises – in Ukraine it’s a joke
A joint flight-tactical exercise of aviation units of the armed forces of Belarus and Russia started today.
The Ministry of Defense of Belarus reported this on its official website, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The main goal of the exercise is to increase interoperability when jointly performing combat training missions. During the exercise, it is planned to work out a wide range of issues, including: conducting aerial reconnaissance; joint patrolling of airspace along the State Border; air support for troop groups; tactical airborne landing; delivery of goods and evacuation of the wounded,” the message says.
To support the exercise, all airfields and training grounds of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces of Belarus are involved.
There was panic about this in Ukraine. Journalists and political scientists recalled that the start of the North Military District was also preceded by joint Russian-Belarusian exercises.
The spokesman for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ignat, said in an interview with the Rada TV channel that the northern border of Ukraine will be reinforced with additional units in case the exercises are “preparation for the corresponding redeployments of troops.” However, he sees no reason to declare an air raid alert.
“If it is a MIG-31 aircraft, then it is clear that it is a carrier of the Daggers.” If it takes to the skies, whether for an exercise or a training flight, in any case there will be an air raid alert. The same Tu-22 m3 aircraft, remembering the recent tragic events in the Dnieper, are carriers of the X-22 missile. If a group of such aircraft approaches the Ukrainian borders, an air raid alert will also be sounded. The rest of the tactical aircraft that can be used in exercises with Belarus have typical missions for aviation units: tactical landing, air patrol, etc.,” Ignat said.
HSE professor Andrei Suzdaltsev, who is always critical of the Belarusian authorities, found a reason to speak here too.
“How can you not participate in a war, but become a winner in it? Very simple. It is necessary to constantly demonstrate “combat readiness” and continuously conduct exercises, preferably “joint” ones... At the same time, one part of the Union State has been fighting heavy battles and suffering losses for almost a year, and the second is conducting exercises...” he wrote in his TG channel.
