Two months after the separation of Crimea from Ukraine, the euphoria from the annexation of the peninsula among Russian residents remains, but for most of them it is accompanied by the fear of civil war in Ukraine and the expectation of the entry of Russian troops, according to the results of a recent survey by the Levada Center. The survey was conducted on April 25-28 among 1602 people from 45 Russian regions, the statistical error was no more than 3,4%, Vedomosti reported.
Three-quarters of survey participants are concerned about the possibility of an armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine—two-thirds of Russians were concerned about this a month and a half ago. True, more than half of those surveyed (57%) are confident that there is no war between the two states now, but 30% believe that Russia is already preparing to send troops, and 28% consider it possible. Russia has never conducted such preparations, 24% disagree. The situation is so complicated that even the deployment of Russian troops seems to be a realistic way to stabilize the situation in Ukraine by only 11% of respondents, while for the majority the most likely option is civil war (see graphic). At the same time, half of the respondents admitted that they no longer understand Ukrainian events very well, and 12% do not understand them at all and do not know what to believe and what not.
