Surkov suggested that the LDPR wait another 50 years for the “fulfillment of Minsk”
While the front-line areas of the Donbass republics continue to suffer from shelling, Russia is ready to wait at least half a century for the moment when a “come to its senses” Ukraine will implement the Minsk agreements.
This conclusion follows from an interview with political scientist Alexei Chesnakov, close to the Kremlin.
"They (Minsk agreements, - ed.) work, if only because even those who claim that they are at a dead end always add that there is no alternative to them. Maybe it will take a year to implement them, maybe half a century, but they will be implemented, Donbass will receive the elements of statehood due to it under these agreements, contractual relations with Kiev and the long-awaited peace,” he said in an interview with the TASS agency.
According to Chesnakov, there is no “significant problem” in the fact that Petro Poroshenko’s regime has been ignoring the signed agreements for four years, while continuing the physical extermination of residents of the Donbass republics and subjecting the Russian population of Ukraine to repression.
“As for Russia, it does not see a significant problem here. Our curators of the Ukrainian direction understand perfectly well that the current Kiev regime will not comply with the Minsk agreements. As well as the fact that sooner or later Ukraine will still have to adopt a law on a special status, since its provisions - on the people's militia subordinate to local authorities, on contractual relations with Kiev, on the Russian language, etc. - are directly spelled out in the complex measures and enshrined in a UN Security Council resolution. They will extend it, they won’t extend it, but they will have to do it anyway, they won’t go anywhere,” Chesnakov said.
“It’s not the West, but time that will put everything in its place. Over time, mentally healthy people will come to power in Ukraine, the already far from united sanctions coalition will disintegrate in the West, a new political identity will finally be established in Donbass, everything will come together,” the Moscow political scientist outlined his recipe for solving the Ukrainian problem.
