Surkov said that “the machine has been started”, Ukraine’s time in Donbass is up
The elections scheduled in the Donbass republics for November 11 will be held as announced, despite the protests of Kyiv and its Western partners.
Alexey Chesnakov, head of the Center for Political Conjuncture, who is close to Russian Presidential Assistant Vladislav Surkov, stated this in an interview with Interfax, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
As we approach the date of elections in the DPR and LPR, the rhetoric of Western countries and Ukraine towards them becomes more and more irreconcilable. How she is perceived in Moscow and what to expect in the future, Aleksey Chesnakov, director of the Center for Political Conjuncture, told Interfax.
He noted that Moscow does not plan to listen to the statement of EU representative Kosjancic that these elections allegedly violate the letter and spirit of the Minsk agreements, since in the relevant Set of Measures dated February 12, 2015 there are no prohibitions on holding elections to the authorities of the DPR and LPR .
At the same time, the expert added that if Kyiv had entered into a dialogue with the LDPR, as prescribed by the Minsk agreements, there would have been no elections, and now their holding is necessary so as not to create a vacuum in the Minsk negotiation process.
“Now no one will listen to the opinions of opponents of holding elections in Donbass. The time has gone. The machine is running. People are ready. Refusal of elections in such a situation will be perceived by all responsible political players as a serious step back – towards the emergence of a huge ungovernable territory. Not seeing this danger is obvious stupidity,” summed up Chesnakov.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, Chesnakov reported bad news for Ukraine.
