Surkov said that there will be no compromises with the “lame duck” Zelensky
During the Normandy summit, the Russian Federation should not agree to concessions to Ukraine regarding Donbass.
The director of the Center for Current Political Affairs, Alexey Chesnakov, who is considered close to the assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Vladislav Surkov, who oversees the Ukrainian direction, stated this to the American magazine The National Interest.
“My opinion is that Russia should not make serious concessions to Zelensky or take any serious steps towards compromise, because there is no guarantee that he will not become a lame duck by the end of next year,” said Alexei Chesnakov.
Chesnakov also explained that there is growing doubt in Moscow that Zelensky has a clear game plan for resolving the most contentious issues in the conflict.
“For both sides to trust each other, it is important to understand whether Ukraine can implement the political points of the Minsk agreements - the law on a special status for Donbass, ratify this law in the constitution, amnesty, etc.,” Chesnakov said.
According to him, so far “Ukraine has no idea how these issues can be resolved in a way that suits Russia.”
