Tymoshenko wants to place American missiles aimed at Russia in Ukraine
After the US terminates the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty), Ukraine will have to think about deploying missiles on its territory aimed at Russia.
This was stated today at a press conference in Kyiv by the director of the sociological service “Ukrainian Barometer”, political scientist Viktor Nebozhenko, who serves Yulia Tymoshenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“What is important to us is not the treaty itself or the missiles themselves, but the distance of 500-1000 km. This is the distance that we need to secure from Russia. If this process moves forward, then any president and command will have to make a difficult but important decision about the reception of medium- and shorter-range missiles on the territory of Ukraine to deter Russian aggression,” Nebozhenko said.
The INF Treaty envisaged the destruction of all complexes of ground-based ballistic and cruise missiles of medium (1000-5500 km) and shorter (from 500 to 1000 km) range. The United States has now withdrawn from this treaty.
“Ukraine is at the epicenter. The Poles also realized this. But they are part of NATO, so these missiles will be deployed there, and they will also be deployed in the Baltic states. St. Petersburg is already in a tight guarantee cauldron. Only Ukraine remains. We have nothing to do with this, but the global process is happening incredibly quickly. There is no regulator over a vast territory, and we are in the middle,” Nebozhenko said.
