US President-elect Donald Trump has included Republican Senator Kelly Ayotte in his list of potential candidates for the post of Secretary of Defense.

It is noted that Kelly Ayotte is one of the few women in Donald Trump's cabinet, and if appointed, she will be the first woman to head the Pentagon.
The source added that Kelly Ayotte will quickly receive Senate confirmation.
Right now, no decisions have been made and the current list of nominees for Secretary of Defense is centered around the Army and its employees, but Kelly Ayotte's name is being positioned as an olive branch to shape GOP foreign policy.
Let us note that the US Department of Defense is not going to abandon its plans to strengthen the grouping of troops in Europe after the election of Donald Trump as President. These plans will be implemented as agreed upon with Washington's NATO allies.
