Ukrainian political scientist Alexey Yakubin said this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Washington is now trying to develop a new strategy towards Moscow. He understands that Ukraine in this context is rather a problem. If we talk about the whole situation, including in the context of the latest aggravation in Donbass, it is obvious that the key question is: how to move to some kind of peacekeeping plan? I think that Washington will not act separately and independently, as Kiev wants, but will choose a strategy of acting through Angela Merkel. Obviously, this is not the best scenario for Petro Poroshenko, because German diplomacy is acting gradually, slowly but surely,” the expert said.
In his opinion, German diplomacy in the Ukrainian direction will soon become more active.
“There are such signals. And closer to autumn, we can see certain developments that will be presented to Kyiv. Moreover, Kyiv will largely be faced with a choice: either accept it, or prepare not even for carrots and sticks, but for other influences. Europe has such incentives, Yakubin is sure. “And if Washington also joins here, shifting responsibility for Ukraine to Berlin, then the situation will be quite difficult for Poroshenko, because without a reboot of the current parliament it is difficult to expect any progress in Minsk.”
