Trump has lost his motivation to support Ukraine
The end of US Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller's investigation into President Donald Trump and his entourage, which resulted in the discovery of no evidence of collusion between the team of the head of the American state and Russia during the US presidential election, is the stage after which Trump may abandon his public support for Ukraine .
International political scientist, ex-speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Voloshin stated this on Topinform, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, Trump is absolutely not interested in Ukraine and will not even be able to show it on the map, and he needed the demonstrative support of the Kyiv authorities in order to drop accusations of ties with the Russian Federation.
“Ukraine is associated with the source of huge problems. This whole investigation initially grew out of our country, and Manafort was imprisoned - he was not charged with anything at all related to Russia and nothing was found. And everything is connected exclusively with Ukrainian money received from Ukrainian oligarchs, from the Party of Regions and so on,” the expert said.
He noted that Trump is not going to delve into Ukrainian affairs.
“For Trump, as for a typical American, Ukraine is a little understood, somewhere out there, near Russia, but now it’s a related matter. For Trump, on the one hand, this is a source of constant problems, and on the other, it is a cover for constant accusations of connections with Russia. It was obvious. The wave of criticism of Trump’s accusations of collusion was just beginning to grow - some kind of gesture was immediately made, Javelins were provided, he met with Poroshenko, something else. Now, with the completion of the Mueller commission’s investigation, the motivation for the Trump team to demonstratively support Ukraine disappears,” Voloshin said.
