Adviser to the US President and ex-speaker of the House of Representatives in Congress Newt Gingrich said this in an interview with the Kyiv magazine “New Time”.

“I think Trump is ready for broader cooperation with the Putin regime, but he will never give up America’s traditional positions in foreign policy,” the publication’s interlocutor said.

He also commented on the US President’s decision to fire FBI head James Comey, noting that the dismissal had nothing to do with the investigation into ties with Russia.

“Comey was incompetent in his position. All Republican prosecutors agreed that he should be fired. Before this, exactly the same consensus reigned among key Democratic politicians. However, they changed their minds when Trump finally decided to fire Comey. Democrats always take an anti-Trump stance, even if Trump is right. So Comey’s dismissal has nothing to do with the investigation into ties with Russia,” the Trump adviser emphasized.

At the same time, Gingrich said that it was untrue to say that Comey was fired precisely when he said he was taking on this case, since “the investigation has been ongoing for several months.”
