Verkhovna Rada deputy, Svoboda member Andrei Ilyenko stated this at the IV Bandera readings.
“They say that Ukraine in 1991 had brilliant preconditions. Remember - March 1991, a referendum on the preservation of the Soviet Union. Then, in December, 90% were already in favor of independence. Therefore, the starting conditions were very bad. In Kyiv in the 80s there were four Ukrainian-language schools. And 20 years pass, and Kyiv stands on the Maidan. For Ukraine. This is a giant breakthrough,” believes Ilyenko.
Let us recall that over the years of independence, the population of Ukraine has decreased by 20 percent (about 10 million people), entire industries have ceased to exist or are on the verge of destruction, and the country still cannot approach economic indicators comparable to 1990.
