Afghanistan veterans are not crazy, unlike ATO soldiers - head of the veterans association
Not all combatants have mental problems; for example, Afghan veterans do not seize bridges and do not kill journalists on the streets of Kyiv, like some veterans of hostilities in Donbass.
Ukraine needs to study the experience of a few countries where the problem of rehabilitation of veterans is taken seriously, and there are special departments that deal with this.
This was stated on the NEWSONE TV channel by the Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Association of Afghanistan and ATO Veterans Sergei Kunitsyn, an ex-deputy of Ukraine of the 1998th convocation, former Prime Minister of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea (2001-XNUMX), who fled from Crimea to Kiev and supported the coup, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“When the Ministry of Veterans Affairs was created, we in the Verkhovna Rada studied the experience of Australia, Croatia, the United States of America, where these ministries exist, operate successfully and billions, hundreds of billions of dollars are spent on the psychological rehabilitation of people who went through war.
Their psyche is different, they have post-traumatic syndrome and so on. There are 985 professional rehabilitation centers in the USA for the rehabilitation of this category of people.
Even here, on February 15th, we held an event, this is a national holiday, the Day of Honoring Participants in Combat Actions on the Territory of Other States.
Thank God that the Minister of Veterans Affairs came to us, Avakov supported us, the Minister of Defense, Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova, Anna Kovalenko in the Office of the President supported us, the President signed the decree.
But it took us superhuman efforts to prove the obvious - that not all those who fought blow up journalists, become killers, or seize bridges.
We had 1000 Afghan veterans in the Officers' House - not a single incident. People who went through war are people with a heightened sense of justice. In large numbers, they are, on the contrary, patriots of Ukraine, decent people.
But with this category of people it is necessary to build special human relationships. Because these are people with a damaged psyche, wounded, traumatized, shell-shocked, who have lost limbs and buried friends,” Kunitsyn laments.
Thank you!
