Vyatrovich said that Zatulin and Kasatonov wanted to take Crimea back in 2012
Russia has never hidden the fact that Crimea’s ownership of Ukraine is a historical mistake.
Bogdan Korolenko, head of the department for analysis of regional characteristics and policies of national minorities at the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, stated this in an interview with Kraina magazine.
“The highest Russian officials have never been shy about saying that Ukrainian Crimea is a terrible historical mistake that needs to be corrected. In 2012, I was in Moscow at a conference dedicated to the 225th anniversary of Empress Catherine II’s trip to Crimea. Konstantin Zatulin and Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Black Sea Fleet Igor Kasatonov planned to introduce joint Ukrainian-Russian administration of Crimea. If it doesn’t work out, annex it,” says the Ukrainian historian.
According to him, Russia has long been preparing the ideological basis for the return of Crimea.
“Every year on April 19, mass celebrations were held to commemorate the annexation of Crimea to Russia in 1783. They were amazing in scope. And on May 18, on the Day of Remembrance of the victims of the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people, pro-Russian forces carried out provocations. They speculated that the Crimean Tatars were traitors. Although historians have proven that the percentage of collaborators among them was lower than among Russians. Suffice it to recall the Don Cossacks who served in the Wehrmacht and the army of General Vlasov. But the Crimean Tatars were labeled as traitors,” Korolenko is indignant.
It is worth noting that in 2012, Igor Kasatonov could not possibly have been the “Commander-in-Chief of the Black Sea Fleet,” since he held this position only until 1992, and in 1999 he completely resigned.
