Ukraine needs, without waiting to join NATO, to obtain guarantees of its security from individual member countries of the alliance.
The head of the parliamentary committee on foreign policy, deputy head of the Ukrainian delegation to the Minsk contact group, Alexander Merezhko, stated this on air on the Majlis TV channel ATR, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to a representative of the presidential party Servant of the People, we can talk, for example, about the United States, which could guarantee Ukrainian security on the basis of bilateral agreements.
“I believe more in thinking about the type of security guarantees that have been provided to Japan or Taiwan, for example. Until we become a full member of NATO, we need to raise the question of special, perhaps temporary, security guarantees from those NATO countries that are ready to protect us. Because among NATO countries there are such countries, first of all, the USA. And then it will be very revealing - who is really trying to help not so much Ukraine, but Europe as a whole, and who is afraid,” Merezhko said.
