Zelensky wants to reform the SBU, strengthening counterintelligence
One of the primary tasks of Vladimir Zelensky’s team will be to reform the Security Service of Ukraine as a structure that is “historically built into many government processes,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Alexander Danilyuk said this in an interview with Channel 24.
According to him, the counterintelligence department in the SBU will be strengthened, while “additional functions of the department” will be abolished. Danilyuk included the economic sphere and the fight against corruption among the latter.
Ivan Bakanov, who is now the acting head of the department, previously spoke about what the SBU should be like. In particular, he promised to reform Department K, which usually dealt with the fight against corruption and organized crime. Bakanov admitted that it is impossible to liquidate it, but there is an option to “change the functionality” of the department.
