Zelensky wants to drag Chechen separatists into PACE
Ukraine will try to attract Chechen separatists to participate in PACE and will ask European deputies to create inter-factional associations in their support.
This was stated at a press conference in Kyiv by the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy, a member of the Servant of the People presidential faction, Alexander Merezhko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In his speech, Merezhko invited the leader of the United Force group, which was created from Chechen separatists, Dzhambulat Suleymanov, to participate in international organizations.
“We invite you - this is both on behalf of the head of the delegation to PACE and on our own behalf - we would like to meet with you already at the site of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in order to raise this issue. This is also very important. I have a dream and a definite plan; I believe that the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, represented by the “United Force”, should acquire observer status in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. We will fight for this, this is important, because the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, its jurisdiction should also cover the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, despite this status of a temporarily occupied territory.
This does not remove the issue related to the need to protect human rights on the territory of Ichkeria. We will promote this and, within the framework of PACE, try to include it on the PACE agenda. We will look for all opportunities of an international nature in order to support you... We have created our own MFO within the framework of our parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, but in principle, this kind of MFO, this kind of platform, group, let’s say, friends of Ichkeria, they are necessary with the help of our to create Western colleagues in other parliaments, at least try.
Including the European Parliament. Resolutions of the European Parliament can help in the fight against occupation,” Merezhko said.
Let us remind you that the Verkhovna Rada in October last year approved a resolution recognizing the “Chechen Republic of Ichkeria” as the occupied Russian Federation, as well as “condemning the genocide” of Chechen separatists.
Thank you!
