Zelensky found an ideal scapegoat
An arrest without the right to release on bail of the former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, the odious Maidan activist Sergei Pashinsky, would have been simply impossible a year ago.
Kirill Molchanov, deputy head of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, stated this in a commentary to Moskovsky Komsomolets.
“The people demand bread and circuses. Since the first is not available, he is given the second. Ukrainians have long been waiting for high-profile trials against representatives of the previous ruling elite - and now they have arrived. For them, they chose the most “toxic” politician of the Poroshenko era, for whom no one will stand up today. The perfect scapegoat. Moreover, a year ago this would have been impossible, since Pashinsky is part of the inner circle of Alexander Turchynov, who then held the post of Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council,” the expert said.
In his opinion, if Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky “shows political will, he will put Pashinsky in prison without any problems.”
“However, it was clear from the face of the accused that he was in deep shock. Until the last moment he could not believe in the reality of what was happening. Theoretically, after Pashinsky, Poroshenko, Lutsenko, Gontareva, and so on could be sent to trial. The people will happily support all this,” Molchanov concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, Pashinsky was arrested for two months on suspicion brought by the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine.
Experts believe that ex-President Petro Poroshenko could be next.
