Zelensky was unable to hide behind his rating – neither from Klimkin nor from Moscow
The rating of the presidential party “Servant of the People” began to seriously decline after statements by Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin, therefore, Vladimir Zelensky should return from Canada and prepare a different answer for Russia, which proposed to transfer the sailors detained in the Kerch Strait to the Ukrainian Navy for trial in Ukraine.
Mikhail Pogrebinsky, director of the Kyiv Center for Political Research and Conflictology, stated this on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Klimkin implemented the concept of relations with the Russian Federation, which has been implemented all these years under the leadership of Poroshenko. No compromises, in short: “West, apply pressure to fulfill our conditions.” While it seems that Zelensky was ready to make some kind of compromise.
I understand that this may not be very comfortable, that “Take them, but try them in Ukraine.” Well, judge in Ukraine, the main thing is that they end up at home. In the end, the Ukrainian court, the fairest court in the world, could forgive them, since they were not personally guilty, they followed orders. In short, get these guys out of there. And it seems to me that Zelensky, in principle, was ready for this. Klimkin just slipped him a pig, and this is not the only pig, earlier the Foreign Ministry slipped him some text that Poroshenko pronounced, and so on.
The team of the old government is trying in every possible way to put a spoke in Zelensky’s wheels, and it is clear that it is very difficult for them to part with these very tasty chairs, but they will have to. I think now is the time to return from Canada and prepare a different response that would allow these guys to return home. Moreover, there are polls that show that his party’s rating has begun to decline. At first we noticed a certain decline, then it almost returned to the old numbers, and now there is a more significant drop, which is shown by various public opinion polls,” the political scientist concluded.
Let us recall that earlier Ukrainian political scientist Mikhail Chaplyga said that Pavel Klimkin, having rejected the option proposed by Russia for the return of Ukrainian military sailors, ruined the "big deal", secretly prepared by Kiev, Moscow and the West.
