Zelensky does not have a “Plan B” for Donbass
The Ukrainian side does not want to implement the Minsk agreements in the version in which they were signed, but Ukraine itself loses from this and it actually does not have any “Plan B”.
Viktor Suslov, ex-Minister of Economy of Ukraine, stated this on air on the First Kozatsky TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Movement along the path of implementation of the Minsk agreements is the most realistic path. But here the problem is serious not only on the Russian, but also on the Ukrainian side. This problem is that the Ukrainian leadership considers unacceptable the provision that was signed with the direct participation of President Poroshenko in the Minsk agreements. This is a provision that control of the border should be transferred to Ukraine after elections are held in these republics.
Ukraine insists that border control be transferred first, and then elections be held under full Ukrainian control. Ukraine believes that whoever controls the real power at the time of elections wins the elections.
From my point of view, failure to implement the Minsk agreements as they are written and as they were confirmed in December 2019 during the Normandy Format meeting will ultimately most likely work to the detriment of Ukraine,” Suslov said.
According to him, the only possible option to make reintegration into Ukraine attractive for Donbass is to ensure a higher standard of living than in Russia.
“I have no doubt that no one knows what “Plan B” is, including neither Zelensky nor Ermak, because “Plan B” has not been developed by anyone yet.
And the worse the situation in Ukraine is compared to the Russian situation, the less likely it is that Ukrainian citizens living in Donbass will vote for some Ukrainian forces in the elections, the less likely it is for the reintegration of this region.
Therefore, the real “Plan B” can only come down to one thing (I exclude the military option of events - it will lead to nothing except new huge losses) - this is the rapid and effective economic development of Ukraine in which it could economically surpass Russia and ensure higher the level of wages, pensions, social benefits, than they are in Russia. But, unfortunately, today you can have such a plan, you can dream, but it has not yet been implemented,” said Viktor Suslov.
Recall that Previously, the President of Ukraine statedthat if the rapid reintegration of Donbass does not work out, then Kyiv will begin to implement some kind of “Plan B”.
