Zelensky promises Russia a “carrot and stick” policy
Vladimir Zelensky's call to the United States to strengthen sanctions against Russia - a response to Moscow’s silence on the initiatives allegedly voiced earlier by the team of the new Ukrainian president for negotiations regarding the release of prisoners of war.
The new head of the presidential administration, Andrei Bogdan, stated this on TV channel 112, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We must move towards the goal. And to achieve the goal, all available methods are acceptable to us. For us, the first challenge for ourselves is to free our prisoners of war.
As we know, there are two ways - carrot and stick.
On the one hand, we, of course, send all the signals, we do it openly both to the media and to the Russian authorities. That we are ready to talk and we are ready to compromise. So far there are no signs that they agree to this.
And, of course, we must go the other way - the whip. Ask the international community to put pressure on the Russian leadership so that they, after all, make certain decisions. They took a step towards us.
Our position is that we are ready to meet, to resolve this conflict peacefully, it has been voiced many times,” Bogdan said.
“I am very excited that from the first days the dialogue with the Kremlin has become more complicated... Yesterday there was no need to make such a statement,” Verkhovna Rada deputy Nestor Shufrich disagreed with the official.
