Zelensky promises to secure a special status without changing the Constitution
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky did the right thing and called Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Future Verkhovna Rada deputy, member of the Servant of the People presidential faction Irina Vereshchuk stated this on TV channel 112, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I think President Zelensky’s step was correct that he made such a telephone call directly to Putin, because he considers the Russian Federation to be a party to the conflict. Thus, he emphasized the responsibility of the Russian Federation for what, among other things, is happening today in Donbass.
If we want Putin to talk to President Zelensky, we must look for those verbal forms that will help him do this. Can you imagine if President Zelensky called now and began to demand in the form of an ultimatum and what next? We remember previous years, when President Poroshenko tried to talk at least by phone with Putin, but he did not want to talk to him.
If we really want to talk about real things, and not about all the pathos that has been pouring out for many years from all possible channels - secret and open, we must take responsibility and speak, calling a spade a spade. Talk to Putin, if possible, by phone and take part in the Normandy format,” Vereshchuk said.
At the same time, she emphasized that the new president’s team does not intend to provide special status to Donbass, as required by the Minsk Agreements.
“The Russian side does not fully understand our legislation. There is no need to amend the Constitution to legislate the special status. And so there is already a law, which means there is no need to change the structure of Ukraine by enshrining in the Constitution the specificity of some kind of status in one region. We will solve this legislatively, as we decided in 15, 16, 17 and 18,” Vereshchuk said.
In the same time. It is worth noting that the Minsk agreements signed by Kiev specifically stipulate amendments to the Constitution
