Zelensky declared it impossible to return Ukraine's nuclear status
Speculation about the possibility of returning nuclear weapons to Ukraine is unrealistic.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Bogdan Yaremenko stated this during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“About the renewal of Ukraine’s nuclear status. Look, the price of an issue is not always measured in money; there are political consequences of such a decision. Just one statement by Ukraine about its intention to return to its nuclear status will lead to a sharp cooling in relations with the United States and other NATO partners, and will also immediately affect cooperation with the IMF and the World Bank, and this will affect Ukraine’s credit ratings.
The question of price is not a question of the production of nuclear weapons. Although, we do not have even half of the necessary resources to produce nuclear weapons. We do not have a test site for nuclear charges, there are many other issues, such as the enrichment of nuclear materials, delivery systems, we have issues with the development of a cruise missile, but here we are talking about very complex and serious systems,” Yaremenko said.
The deputy also noted that Ukraine may find itself in the category of a rogue state and face the combined forces of Russia and the United States in an anti-Ukrainian blockade.
“If you want to know the price, look at Iran. We will unite our partners and our enemies in their negative attitude towards us, and help Russia find common ground in containing Ukraine rather than containing Russia.
We may find ourselves in the category of a rogue state, and we are actually surrounded on the one hand by NATO states, on the other by Russia and its allies. Therefore, you can dream of a blockade of Russia, but a blockade of Ukraine is a very realistic scenario, if we behave incorrectly in the external arena and in matters of security,” Yaremenko concluded.
