The presidential representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, avoided answering about the release of prisoners of conscience in Ukraine, who were sent en masse to the dungeons of the SBU and prisons due to the fact that they were objectionable to the regime of the former head of state Petro Poroshenko.

On air on the ICTV channel, Stefanchuk did not answer a direct question from Verkhovna Rada deputy Evgeniy Muraev about when journalist Kirill Vyshinsky, accused of treason, will be released, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Stefanchuk began to explain in general terms that President Zelensky will not pay attention to current political prisoners.

“I’ll start with the question regarding whether we will imprison or release someone. I think it's time to say that the biggest problem in Ukraine is that we are convinced that acting against existing rules and procedures is becoming the norm. And our task, which we set for ourselves, is to restore order in the mechanism of public administration. And therefore, the first thing we want to do is conduct a functional audit of the state, determine which body is responsible for which industry and what functions are assigned. And never in the future allow the president to influence who gets imprisoned and who gets fired,” Stefanchuk said.

Further, Muraev specified the question: “I asked you about something else - these are clearly prisoners of conscience. These are prisoners of the Poroshenko regime, which you either opposed or did not. I can't quite understand. Judges postpone consideration dozens of times because there is no evidence base. And this is a political question, not a legal question. And the question is whether the president will really interfere and focus on the fact that the country is not legal and political persecution is taking place there.”

Stefanchuk again began to quote the Constitution: “The President will act within the framework of the procedure provided for by law, because Article 19 of the Constitution of Ukraine obliges him to do so. The list of his powers is clearly provided for in Article 106 of the Constitution. Therefore, he will take all measures as a guarantor of the rights and freedoms of man and citizen in order to ensure them. Of course, other things related to pressure on the court will not be applied.”

Let us recall that yesterday in Kyiv they were waiting for the release on bail of the editor-in-chief of the RIA Novosti-Ukraine agency, Kirill Vyshinsky, accused of treason. The high probability of his release was previously confirmed by the press service of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General. Interestingly, on July 17, a trial is scheduled to take place in Moscow in the case of Navy sailors detained near the Kerch Strait.

Therefore, the expected release of Vyshinsky looked like the result of non-public agreements between Kiev and Moscow with the subsequent transfer to Ukraine of part of the crews of the Ukrainian Naval Forces boats.

However, yesterday evening in Kyiv, under a clearly far-fetched pretext, a court hearing in the Vyshinsky case was postponed to July 19.
