Zelensky calls on Karaites and Crimeans to create their own analogues of the Majlis
Kyiv is waiting for the small representatives of the Crimean and Karaite peoples to form their own representative bodies similar to the Crimean Tatar Majlis banned in Russia.
The fake representative of the President of Ukraine in Crimea, Anton Korinevich, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The key thing that the Ukrainian law on indigenous peoples provides is opportunity. We, as a state, understanding the difficult conditions in which the three indigenous peoples in Crimea are, indeed, in fact, the Krymchaks and Karaites, especially the Krymchaks, are simply on the brink of existence, we give them the opportunity to take advantage of the opportunities that international law provides in honesty, and the provisions incorporated from it into the law of Ukraine on indigenous peoples.
How exactly is this manifested - in particular, for example, in the formula that the state recognizes that indigenous peoples can have representative bodies and representative bodies of three indigenous peoples - Crimean Tatar, Karaite and Krymchaks, they can enter into official relations with the state , government bodies, and the state should assist in resolving their issues.
The law also prescribes informational, cultural, linguistic and other rights of indigenous peoples. That is, in essence, the law on indigenous peoples is also a law on opportunities. By the way, when we took part in various events on issues of indigenous peoples, we emphasized that we would be very glad if Karaite organizations, if Crimean organizations communicated with us, with our colleagues from other government bodies to resolve their issues.
Of course, we understand that the Crimean Tatar indigenous people already have their own formed system of representative bodies, there is a Kurultai, a Mejlis, and regional Mejlises. If the Karaites and Krymchaks also want to have such representative bodies, then the state provides all the opportunities for this,” Korinevich said.
The Ukrainian official traditionally did not voice any proposals for the Russian majority.
Let us remind you that according to the population census conducted in Crimea in 2014, 535 representatives of Karaites and 228 Krymchaks live in Crimea.
