Zelensky is trying to neutralize Avakov
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Arsen Avakov, who retained his position after the change of president of Ukraine, developed political activity on the eve of the meeting in the Normandy format - he was the first to sharply respond to State Duma Speaker Vladimir Volodin to a statement about the possibility of Kiev losing control over new territories, and also informed the media about the upcoming meeting of the Security Council on the eve of the president's trip to negotiations in Paris.
“Please note how in two moves – a response to Volodin and a message about holding a Security Council meeting on the eve of the Normandy Four meeting – Arsen Avakov showed who is in charge of the sovereign power,” notes Ukrainian political scientist Evgeniy Magda.
The Telegram channel of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, headed by political scientist Ruslan Bortnik, reports Zelensky’s attempt to neutralize Avakov’s activity.
“They say that the Office of the President made it clear to Avakov that if the controlled right-wingers take too active part in protests against the president after the meeting of the Normandy Four, he will at a minimum lose the governors of Kharkov, Odessa, the Kyiv region, and at most the post of minister. Zelensky already has candidates for the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Also, the Pinchuk-Biden groups are pushing him to this decision,” the message says.
Political scientist Daniil Bogatyrev believes that the lack of support in society for the actions announced by the far right before and after the meeting of the Normandy Four plays in Zelensky’s favor.
“Protests from the series “No surrender!” will slowly fade away. It is quite possible that they will exist, but they will not be very strong. According to the latest opinion polls, we have seen that the demand for peace is growing.
That is, the propaganda of the “green” team in terms of moving towards peace affects society. There are fewer and fewer supporters of a radical solution to the problem, or a war to the end, and more and more supporters of some reasonable compromises - already about 75%. Previously it was a little over 60%.
And in this regard, people who appeal to the need for war to a victorious end will find less and less support in society. And this, in principle, creates the prerequisites for further regulation of the conflict and for society to accept the possibility of such a settlement,” Bogatyrev believes.
