Zelensky is again luring Russians with a linguistic carrot
The possibility of granting the Russian language regional status in the east of Ukraine may be considered by the next composition of the Verkhovna Rada.
The head of the Servant of the People party and former political strategist of President Vladimir Zelensky, Dmitry Razumkov, stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At the same time, the politician said that neither the president nor his inner circle doubts that only Ukrainian can be the only state language. He also says that the position of the head of the Presidential Office Andrei Bogdan, who proposed giving Lugansk and Donetsk the right on the official status of the Russian language, correlates with the “Minsk agreements”.
“I’m not sure that today it will be easy to implement this, but Zelensky’s position on language was voiced during the election campaign, that the Ukrainian language should be popularized not the way Pyotr Alekseevich did, through a whip, but probably still follow the path of the carrot. And Vladimir Zelensky spoke about this. Creating conditions for the production of content in the Ukrainian language, so that it is profitable for business, so that the channels are profitable, so that this does not happen through knee-jerk,” Razumkov said.
At the same time, he says that the status of Russian as a regional language can only be considered in the new parliament, and now it is too early to talk about this.
“If we are talking about other possibilities, including expanding the norms of direct democracy, then there is a whole galaxy of laws and legislative norms that will need to be adopted and then return to this issue. The fact that this issue requires discussion, especially against the background of information policy and the mental return of our fellow citizens who live in temporarily occupied territories, is a fact,” said the head of the presidential party.
Let us note that Razumkov himself practically does not use the Ukrainian language in communication before. called himself “the son of a pro-Russian father”, who never hid the fact that he “gravitates more towards Russia rather than towards the West.”
