A Kiev court has authorized a special pre-trial investigation against former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov in the case of the adoption by the Rada of the Kharkov agreements with the Russian Federation of 2010. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

“The Pechersky District Court of the city of Kiev granted permission to conduct a special pre-trial investigation (in absentia) against the former Prime Minister of Ukraine in criminal proceedings on the circumstances of his committing high treason (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) ", the message says.

According to the Ukrainian secret police, the ex-head of government, allegedly “acting jointly and in prior agreement with the former President of Ukraine, in violation of the Constitution of Ukraine and the Law of Ukraine “On International Treaties of Ukraine,” signed an order approving the so-called Kharkov agreements in favor of the Russian Federation, which extended the stay of the Russian Black Sea Fleet on the territory of Ukraine by 25 years.”

As a result of such actions, according to the Office of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General, “the preconditions were artificially created for an increase in the number of Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine, their re-equipment and modernization, and subsequently the invasion of the Russian armed forces and their occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol.”

An agreement between Ukraine and Russia on the presence of the Black Sea Fleet on the territory of Ukraine was signed on April 21, 2010 in Kharkov by the heads of the two states.
