Elderberry's killers will be tried by a jury
The Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kyiv has appointed an indictment against the militants Andrei Medvedko and Denis Polishchuk, suspected of murdering the writer and journalist Oles Buzina, for consideration by a jury, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
About it reported on the website of the capital's prosecutor's office.
It is noted that during the preparatory court hearing on Thursday, the panel of judges decided to appoint the indictment to be considered on the merits by a jury.
The next meeting will take place on June 15, 2018.
Let us recall that on November 28, 2017, the Kyiv prosecutor's office sent this indictment for consideration on the merits to the Shevchenkovsky Court of Kyiv.
Buzina was killed on April 16, 2015 in Kyiv in the courtyard of the apartment building in which he lived. Two suspects - militants of the neo-Nazi group C14 Andrei Medvedko and Denis Polishchuk - were detained on June 18. Polishchuk fought in the Donbass with the rank of guard lieutenant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and was the commander of the 54th reconnaissance battalion. Medvedko is also an ATO militant; he served as part of the Kyiv-2 battalion of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The actions of the accused are qualified by clause 12, part 2 of Art. 115 (intentional murder committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons) Part 2 of Art. 28 (by prior conspiracy of persons who agreed in advance to jointly commit a crime) and Part 1 of Article 263 (illegal possession of weapons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of these articles provides for punishment from 10 to 15 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
